The coastline of Tavira is calm and peaceful.  It has an island beach surrounded by eleven kilometers of fine white sand and warm water. The island is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, featuring wetland flora and fauna, and water birds.

Beaches of Ilha de Tavira (Tavira Island)

Ilha de Tavira Beach

This beach is on the eastern part of the island. This area has various holiday homes, a campsite and various tourist facilities such as restaurants and bars and the beach is supervised in the bathing season. On the interior side of the island, the waters are calmer and warm – ideal for children.

Access is by ferry boat from Tavira town center (mostly for pedestrians) or a ferry from Quatro Aguas in Tavira where parking is available.


The golden sandy, beach is situated in the middle of the island.  The beach has a restaurant and toilet facilities and is supervised in high season.

Access is via a tourist train or wooden footpath from Pedras D’el Rei, about 4 Kilometers from Tavira.

Homen Nu (Naked man)

On the western extreme of the island is the official naturist beach.  Access is from Barril Beach.
